Back in 1989, Jordan was featured in GQ titled ‘Michael Jordan in his own orbit’ where they uncovered his greatest fan ever. Richie Weaver got featured in the piece as one of MJ’s most religious fans. Weaver was discovered at a Celebrity-sports-star tournament that Michael Jordan was playing.

Weaver was reportedly wearing a homemade bracelet that said ‘MICHAEL JORDAN.’ It was reported that Weaver was overjoyed to see his idol, Michael Jordan. Moreover, it was revealed that it’s costing Weaver almost two weeks’ pay to see Michael Jordan. He showed his dedication by spending a large amount of money to travel to Kenny Roger’s farm in Georgia. Weaver saw his idol from the sidelines and would have loved to approach him, but the fans were not allowed to interact with the celebrities.

He has gone to many lengths to show his love for Jordan. Reportedly, Weaver owns five pairs of Air Jordans and seven posters. Once, he brought a cake to school to celebrate MJ’s birthday and threw a party. Weaver tagged along with Michael Jordan as the NBA icon traversed through all the sports in the event, hoping to catch him in the act and strike a conversation with him.

Richie Weaver traveled from a small town in Atlanta just to see his idol. GQ reported that he took his old Sports Illustrated and a pair of kicks for MJ to sign. The Chicago Bulls star later signed his Air Jordans, which is something that he never envisioned.

Weaver was among a few of the greatest players in the NBA, like Dominique Wilkins and Larry Bird, but all he could do was look at Jordan. After all, the young Highschooler had spent two weeks of pay to see his favorite player.

It does not stop at Richie Weaver; MJ has had much crazier interactions with fans since 1989. MJ once sent a fan two boxes of gear after he saw him play basketball dressed up like him. The fan received Jordan’s shoes and jerseys, among other Chicago Bulls merchandise.
