NBA legend Michael Jordan was the first ever athlete to become a billionaire. He was one of the highest-paid players during his playing career. Coupled with his huge endorsement deals and strategic investments, Jordan’s billionaire status was inevitable. Despite this, the Chicago Bulls legend was not the most generous when it came to money. His once close friend and fellow NBA legend Charles Barkley once revealed an interesting story about MJ’s reluctance.

Barkley and Jordan made once an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show where the Philadelphia 76ers legend how cheap MJ was. Barkley stated that Jordan smacked his hand when he was about to give money to a homeless person. He added that the six-time NBA champion argued the person should work and earn. However, things changed when he married Yvette Prieto.

Michael Jordan and model Yvette Prieto moved in together in 2010 after meeting at a nightclub in Miami. The couple was then engaged in 2011 and married in 2013. They welcomed their twin daughters in 2014. As per reports from Hola, Yvette is a charitable person. This has seemingly rubbed off on Jordan. Over the years, the Hall of Famer has supported a lot of charities and has given back a lot to homeless people as well.

Something he did not allow Charles Barkley to do years ago. However, it is safe to argue MJ was just being a staunch advisor of hard work in that instance. And when Barkley joked about it on The Oprah Winfrey Show,?the five-time MVP just laughed it off. As per reports, Jordan now has a net worth of over $2 billion.

According to NBA, Jordan has donated and raised more than $28 million of his personal money to multiple charities. It includes $2 million to relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Florence in 2018 and $5 million to the Smithsonian?s National Museum of African American History and Culture in 2016.

Michael Jordan also supports organizations like Friends of the Children, Make-A-Wish, James R. Jordan Foundation, etc. Also, he donated the proceeds from the docuseries The Last Dance?to Feeding America to feed over 46 million people.

In 2021, the Jordan brand made a $100 million commitment to help the black community in the country. Furthermore, he has also been making huge charities through his franchise, the Charlotte Hornets.
