Michael Jordan is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Many consider his NBA record enviable. He has won six NBA rings throughout his career. He has the highest career PPG in the entire league’s history, with the number being 30.1.

However, his playing days with the Washington Wizards are much less known. He had spent the last two years of his career there but nobody talks about it much.

One of his teammates there, Larry Hughes recently gave an interview on the Hoops Hype podcast. He recounted a very funny incident Johnson had with a mother and her child there. Hughes was talking about the crazy fan incidents he had seen when Jordan was playing alongside him.

He said, “We were out at an event where they had families and kids around. We were doing some pictures and some autographs and things of that nature. M had a cigar deal and he would always have a cigar, whether it was lit or not lit. But I can remember that, at this occasion, the cigar was lit. There was this mom who wanted her kid to take a picture with MJ and she did not care that he had this stinky cigar that was lit.”

He added, “She forced her kid into MJ’s hands and basically forced the picture. I don’t know if this picture is still around or what, but there should be a picture around of MJ with a 12-to-18-month-old baby with a cigar in his hand. Those were two things that stood out to me.”

Jordan’s stint with the Wizards was unremarkable to say the least. He had just come out of his second retirement to play with the team in 2001. The expectations were very high as it was with him. But it wasn’t to be as his performances disappointed everyone. He averaged 23 and 20 ppg which would have been great for any average player but for Jordan; it was a step-down.

It wasn’t the player fans were used to seeing. The Wizards finished 37-45 during each of Jordan’s two years in a Wizards uniform. They never made the playoffs. After spending two years there, he retired from the game for good.
