Almost every player in the basketball world receives a certain amount of backlash from fans if he makes some mistake on or off the court. However, that was apparently not the case for the six-time NBA champion and 14x All-Star, Michael Jordan. Recently, a longtime Chicago Bulls writer and a veteran author gave an answer to the question by expressing that arguably the greatest player of all time?was never held accountable for his mistakes.
The said writer is none other than Sam Smith, the author of the famous book, The Jordan Rules. Smith is noted among NBA buffs for being a lifelong critic of the former Bulls players. The 75-year-old author recently spilled the beans in an interview.

Smith sat down with Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports for a chat on the latest episode of The Colin Cowherd podcast and talked about a plethora of topics. Shortly after Cowherd introduced Smith, he said people presumed that MJ was just being competitive if he ever punched a player but if the same thing was done by a player like Draymond Green, then fans would have asked the league to throw him out. Cowherd then asked the iconic author whether he knew that he was going to receive a lot of flak after publishing The Jordan Rules.
The Bulls writers responded by saying, “Colin, let me say first, if Michael [Jordan] punched somebody and his knuckles were bruised that was on the other guy and I think that’s what we have to mention.”?
The Jordan Rules?author wanted to indicate that if Jordan ever became so angry that he had to punch someone and bruise his knuckles, then he had to do it because he was triggered by the said person. Then that person would be held accountable for triggering him instead of the 14x All-Star receiving any criticism for his punch. His comments might be true as His Airness?was mean to others on several occasions but certainly didn’t receive any sort of flak from the NBA world.
Jordan was annoyed with Smith
Jordan became extremely popular as he reached the pinnacle of success in the 90s. However, he was annoyed with Smith as he published outlandish stories about him which were detrimental to Jordan’s image. In an interview with Playboy?in 1992, the 14x All-Star shared his thoughts on?The Jordan Rules?author.

He said, “I can imagine some of the things being said from anger or jealousy or disappointment. But I could see Sam Smith actually manipulating, putting words in their mouths, to get his meaning from the situation.”?
The NBA legend continued, “Sam Smith says (Bill) Cartwright said I was b**ching about not getting 50 points and that everyone could have scored 20 instead. That?s the biggest lie in America. He really exploits certain things…”?These statements revealed that Jordan was disappointed with the way he was portrayed in The Jordan Rules?book.
