Despite a lackluster career in professional basketball, O.J. Mayo was once one of the most sought-after prospects in the nation at the amateur level. Mayo’s high-school campaign produced comparisons with LeBron James and landed him in Michael Jordan’s camp ‘Flight school.’ However, as fans recall after decades, instead of advancing his career, the Chicago Bulls legend almost ended it. Another NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal recently reacted to the infamous exchange between Jordan and Mayo.

4x NBA champion and Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal is one of the biggest draws in the NBA. O’Neal has a massive fanbase. Moreover, he also has a massive fan following on social media, including over 27.7 Million followers on Instagram. Thus, the Hall of Famers’ influence on the platform is prevalent in NBA circles. With this widespread influence, O’Neal recently shared a reel on his story that contained the infamous O.J. Mayo and Michael Jordan interaction from over a years ago.

Michael Jordan taught OJ Mayo a ‘lesson’

OJ Mayo rose to fame in the early 2000s as one of the most touted young prospects in the country. Bearing the title of the ‘best high school player’, Mayo was one of the biggest names at the amateur level. Incidentally, he was once offered to attend Michael Jordan’s camp ‘Flight school’ in his junior year.

Upon arriving at the camp, O.J. Mayo made his presence known as the only high schooler in attendance. Moreover, his infamy grew as he became known as the high schooler who talked smack to Michael Jordan. After making a couple of buckets on Jordan, Mayo got cocky and started trash-talking the Hall of Famer.

?Jordan, in character, took it upon himself to teach the 16-year-old a lesson. The 6x NBA champion dominated the young guard one-on-one. After teaching Mayo a ‘lesson,’ Jordan said, “Hey, young fella, let me tell you something, you may be the best high school player in the world, but I’m the greatest ever. Don’t you ever disrespect a great like that!”?The infamous exchange has become a classic in the long list of Jordan’s antics over the years.
