At the time, the Pistons were the best team in the league and eliminated the Bulls in the playoffs. The Pistons won back-to-back titles while MJ struggled. The Bad Boys Pistons played physical defense on Jordan which he struggled against.

Later one of the best defenders of the Pistons, Dennis Rodman would join MJ and win 3 rings. Recently a rare photo of Jordan celebrating with Rodman after the 1998 NBA finals win is doing the rounds.
The dominance of Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan hit the ground running as soon as he landed in the NBA. He won the Rookie of the Year Award with ease. While he was performing great at an individual level, he couldn’t elevate the overall team play night in and night out. During his early years, the Bulls struggled in the playoffs.
In the latter stages of the 1980s, Michael Jordan established himself as a superstar in the league. In 1988, he won his first ever NBA MVP award and led his team to the playoffs. However, the Bulls couldn’t move past the Detroit Pistons who employed the ‘Jordan Rules’. It was the same story the following year as well as the ‘Bad Boys’ Pistons gave Jordan a hard time.

Dennis Rodman was one of them. The young forward was one of the best defensive players for the Pistons as they won two titles back-to-back. However, Jordan would finally have his revenge on the Pistons in the 1990-91 season. And MJ and the Bulls won the title that year. A few years later, former rival Rodman would join hands with Jordan for the Bulls when Jordan came back from retirement.
This unlikely partnership worked wonders. Rodman was a defensive anchor and a rebounding machine. He helped the Bulls defensively alongside Jordan and Scottie Pippen. And he was an integral part of the Bulls’ three-peat from 1996 to 1998.
