Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal formed the face of the Los Angeles Lakers for nearly a decade. Under their leadership, the Lakers won 3 titles in a row from the 1999-00 season to the 2001-02 season. They looked unstoppable and overcame any opponent who came their way. It was truly a special time in LA.
The way the duo wreaked havoc together has led to many players in today’s NBA being compared to them. Among these are two duos from the Philadelphia 76ers (James Harden and Joel Embiid) and the Phoenix Suns (Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton). However, neither of the two are yet to get hold of the title like Kobe and Shaq did. In fact, many fans on Twitter too voiced the same opinion of the duos being compared to Kobe and Shaq.

Fans react to the Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal comparisons
Several in the NBA community have stated that the Booker-Ayton duo and the Harden-Embiid duo are like Kobe and Shaq. However, the Twitterverse disagrees and snubs the comparisons.

not to mention kobe and shaq are elite defenders while harden and booker aint even close and embiid and ayton are babies compared to shaq

nobody should be compared to shaq and kobe unless they accomplish at least 1/3of their achievement (3rings). what have they proven? that they lose in playoffs.
— vivalakers (@kasonuma2) March 14, 2022
Stop this shit right now please. NONE of them are even close to the level Shaq and Kobe was as individual players so imagine as a damn duo.

Clearly, the fans have put the comparisons to bed. They believe both duos are nowhere close to Kobe and Shaq. Moreover, both duos have never won a title, let alone 3 as Kobe and Shaq did.
In conclusion
Although Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton made it to the finals in 2021, they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. Despite Booker being a prolific scorer like Kobe, Ayton was unable to attain the same level of dominance as Shaq did. Due to these facts, the Suns duo falls short of the comparison to Kobe and Shaq.
Harden and Embiid have had more success in the playoffs than the Suns’ duo. In the case of Harden, the ‘Beard’ is a prolific scorer, rebounder, and playmaker. However, he falls short of Kobe’s defensive capabilities. As for Embiid, his dominance stretches outside the pain as he is a much better shooter than Shaq. However, the factor that downplays the comparison is that neither player of the 76ers’ duo has won a title.

So it’s fair to say that the comparisons don’t hold good at present. However, this does not mean that their level cannot be attained. If both duos prove to successful and dominant as Kobe and Shaq, we maybe seeing future stars compared to the 76ers and Suns duos. Regardless, both teams have an amazing set of players and we could see them face off in the 2022 NBA finals.
