Having an owner who is super invested in the team is one of the key factors behind succeeding in the NBA. And Dallas Mavericks excel in that region under the ownership of Mark Cuban. Cuban has owned the franchise for over 20 years and has invested a lot in it. However, owning a franchise is no joke, it requires a lot of money. But if you have a business mind like Mark Cuban, then you can do it too just with $8k. A while ago, Cuban unveiled how that money helped him to buy the Dallas Mavericks franchise, which further enabled him to buy Luka Doncic and other notable stars.

A few years ago, in season three of ‘Cold as Balls,’ the famous comedian Kevin Hart sat down with Mark Cuban for a chat. They discussed many intriguing stories that revealed a lot of information about the Mavericks owner. However, among them, the story of how Cuban bought the franchise with just the help of $8k caught the attention of the viewers.

Mark Cuban on how he bought a franchise in NBA

During the interview, Kevin Hart got a bit surprised after finding out that Mark Cuban bought the Mavericks, currently valued at $2.5 billion, only for $285 million. Thereafter, he asked where he did get the money from.

In reply, Cuban said, “I started the first streaming company, back in 1995… The internet was happening and I’m like let’s use this internet thing to figure out if we can listen to basketball games. Then it went from listening, then it went to broadcasting on video, then it went to going public, sold it for $5.7 billion and couple of months later bought the Mavs.”

Subsequently, upon hearing this, Hart asked him with what amount of money did he start his company in 1995. Cuban replied that he started it with around $8000, which further astonished the comedian. Hart exclaimed loudly after finding out the amount and joked about regretting spending $8,000 on wine recently.

Therefore, with the use of his business skills, Mark Cuban was able to turn $8k into $5.7 billion. This generation of income helped Cuban to buy the franchise, which further enabled him to trade in notable players like Dirk Mowitzki and Luka Doncic. Besides that, it is also helping him enjoy the league as a proud team owner.
