Ever since Michael Jordan hung his boots, big men started to dominate the NBA once again. The exploits of superstars Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan arguably defined the post-MJ era. Fans still debate over the two legendary centers as to who among them is the best big man. However, Michael Jordan had once picked another iconic center over both Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan. Recently, a 7x-NBA champion also chose MJ’s favorite big man over Shaq and Duncan.
While Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan dominate every other discourse on big men, the 7x-NBA champion has added a new name to the discourse. Besides, he has also garnered NBA fans’ attention after sidelining two of the most prominent big men.

Back in 2014, Michael Jordan unveiled his top pickup team. The Chicago Bulls legend chose Scottie Pippen, James Worthy, Magic Johnson and Hakeem Olajuwon as his teammates. He unveiled this team in a video released by 2k Sports to promote NBA 2k14. MJ interestingly chose the Houston Rockets legend Hakeem Olajuwon as his center over Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan.
“Olajuwon, he is in the top 10 in five categories. Steals, rebounds, blocked shots, scoring, and shooting percentage. Which to me shows the versatility of what type of guy he really was,”?Michael Jordan said.
Years later, 7x-NBA champion Robert Horry has made the same claim as Michael Jordan. Robert Horry had played with Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan and has won a championship with all three. In his recent appearance on All the Smoke?podcast, Horry shed light on his experience of playing with the three. Then he went on to pick the best of the lot.
“Dream number one by far. We don’t like to talk about it. Nobody likes to talk about it,” Robert Horry said.

Horry added that Hakeem ‘Dream’ Olajuwon accomplished a lot of feats on the NBA despite not playing basketball during his college days. The hosts, Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, agreed with Horry’s take as he had played and won championships with three of these big men. Horry’s claim has become a superhit on NBA Twitter after NBA Central tweeted a snippet of the conversation.
Robert Horry ignites NBA fans on Twitter with his claim
Robert Horry has rightly put it that many are not talking about Hakeem Olajuwon’s NBA stint. After coming across Horry’s claim many fans seem to have reminisced about the Dream’s greatness. Some fans think on the same lines as Michael Jordan and Robert Horry, while certain other fans disagree a bit.
“I understand him over Shaq, Hakeem cooked him, but Timmy was a bit of a better matchup & I ain?t about to elevate Hakeem like 7 spots,” said a fan.

A fan recalls Michael Jordan’s appreciation for Hakeem Olajuwon.
In 2014, MJ chose Hakeem as his starting center in a hypothetical pickup game. Duncan was great but had a limited bag. Shaq was dominant but had flaws in his game like defence, free throw shooting and jump shot. Hakeem was the only big man of his era without any noticeable flaws. pic.twitter.com/J2aODkTOLK

Another fan relates to Robert Horry’s claim.
Hakeem is so under appreciated. Imo I think he’s the second best big man ever behind Kareem.

This fan has also sidelined Shaquille O’Neal.
Hakeem and Kobe would have had more rings together than Shaq

This fan loves all three of them.
Duncan the most solid all around. Shaq the most dominant, Hakeem was the most skilled

More support comes the Dream’s way.
He knows ball. If you think he’s wrong go look up Hakeem Olajuwon on google
