Although the couple have been married since 1991, there was a time when Magic Johnson wanted to call off the engagement. That too for the second time.
Magic Johnson got a reality check from his wife
In Johnson’s TV series, ‘They call me Magic,’ episode two extensively covered what went through Johnson’s head at the time and the response he got from his wife.
Johnson said, “It just became hard to get me to aisle to the church.” That was not something any woman would want to hear from their long time partner. Given that they had gotten engaged once before but decided to break it off.

When Johnson wanted to break off the engagement for the second time, Cookie said, “Well, I tell you what. We can postpone the wedding but we’re not breaking the engagement. We are staying engaging.”
Magic asked Cookie for the ring back saying, “Cookie, stop playing, give me the ring.” But that is when Cookie couldn’t take it anymore and lost her temper. She ended up slamming the door in Johnson’s face.
