The Los Angeles Lakers are having one of the most dismal seasons in their recent times. Despite having three top players, they failed to deliver on anything as they now sit outside the play in the picture. Despite all his efforts, LeBron James couldn’t carry the purple and gold over the finish line. While the blame for failure has kept moving, Lakers legend Magic Johnson believes the King is responsible for the look of the team.

The Lakers have gone through one of their worst phases since LeBron joined the team. However, the Akron Hammer has been the pick of the players at the age of 37. James has continued to break the odds and make history this season. In addition, he is one of the leading scorers in the league averaging 30 points per game. But, the Lake show haven’t been able to feed off his successful season. But Magic has other complaints.

The former MVP said James needs to take the blame for DeMar DeRozan going to the Chicago Bulls instead of joining the purple and gold.

LeBron James misjudged it big time

The off-season saw the Lakers make a surprising move and bring in Russell Westbrook to LA. While there were many issues being thrown out by the fans, James was all in support of the move. He played a major role in convincing the front office to bring in Russ instead of DeRozan. And Magic believes James needs to take the blame for that.

He said: “The blame that he’s gotta ake is the fact that DeRozan ended up in Chicago and not with the Lakers.” Magic explained saying, “I think with DeRozan and then you had a chance to keep the role players. Caruso, KCP, all those guys who are our best defenders, they left and that’s why we were a bad defensive team. But if you sign DeRozan, you only trade Kuzma for Buddy Hield, we would be playing in the Western Conference championship this year with those two guys.”

The Lakers not going for DeRozan definitely hurt them a lot. The purple and gold were not willing to give him a longer contract and DeMar has only rubbed it in their face. The current Bulls star is having a scintillating year averaging 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Moreover, he has helped the Bulls be one of the top-seeded teams in his conference.

If the Lakers were able to keep Caruso and Caldwell-Pope, their defense would have looked a lot better. And DeMar would have added a reliable scoring option looking at the way injuries came in this season. James put his trust in the Russ move and hurt the Lakers big time.
