Magic Johnson is widely regarded as one of the best point guards to have ever played in the NBA. Unsurprisingly, his knowledge of the game of basketball is unparalleled. Post-retirement, he has been on TV shows and podcasts, giving his two cents and analysis of game nights.  However, his recent commentary did not go well with the fans.

A week ago, he called out Russell Westbrook for his lack of accountability.

Johnson commented on the Lakers’ first win of the season. He tweeted that LeBron scored 26 points with 8 rebounds and Anthony Davis had a double-double of 23 points along with 15 rebounds. Fans were quick to point out that Magic Johnson was stating the obvious. One fan said he was the Internet Explorer for Halloween. Many criticized him for his score announcement, 14 hours after the game ended.

Earlier this year, ESPN declared that former Laker would appear “frequently” on their network. They were looking at him to provide his analysis of every game. However, Johnson is more active on Twitter, offering commentary. He has only made one appearance since ESPN’s announcement.

ESPN clarified that as much as they would like to have Johnson, their schedules have not worked favorably for each other.

This was not the first time fans dragged Johnson for his tweets. On May 2022, Johnson tweeted that the Lakers are one of the “big market teams” that required improvement. Fans jumped at this and had snarky comments. They thanked him for his “A+ analysis” and his “transcendent thinking”.

Johnson’s recent commentary was just a plain announcement of the scores. Fans were critical and expected more from the basketball champion.
