The NBA world is never without ongoing debates and conversations about the greatests. Countless analogies are by fans and stars alike, and the master of all matters is the ever-present GOAT verdict. Superstars like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson are still relevant to any ball conversation decades after their retirement. After the rise of LeBron James, the debate has upgraded further, being continuously fueled by new developments.

Similarly, another reason why the GOAT debate has picked up pace again is the upcoming release of the much-awaited MJ biopic-of-sorts Air. Joining many in response to the upcoming film, a senior sports analyst recently made questionable comments about the GOAT debate.

Air, directed by Ben Affleck, is set to receive a worldwide theatrical release next month. The film involves stars like Matt Damon and Chris Tucker among several other notable actors. The story revolves around sports brand Nike’s iconic Air Jordans deal. Affleck plays the role of Phil Knight, the company’s co-founder, in the film. While the producers are yet to reveal a glimpse of MJ’s character, several reports revealed that actor Damian Young plays a rookie Michael Jordan in the film.

Who is the greatest ever? Michael Jordan – or James or Bryant?

In a recent episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, senior sports reporter Cowherd opened another door to the GOAT debate, bringing in a new angle on the topic. Before sharing his contentious take, he praised the filmmakers for the to-be-biopic. After conveying his appreciation, Cowherd he jumped into the debate.

Cowherd ended up creating a separate class itself for LeBron James as the greatest instead of comparing him to Michael Jordan. Moreover, he dragged in Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant into the conversation.

Cowherd considers MJ and James as the two greatest basketball players ever. He further explained, “Kobe Bryant’s the second-best Michael Jordan ever and I think Magic’s the second-best LeBron.” Even though this analogy seems full of the potential to face flak from fans from all around, it stands out amongst most of the opinions made in the debate.
