In light of this, recently, the 61-year-old opened up about pulling his family out of poverty.

Isiah Thomas on uplifting his family from poverty

In one of the latest episodes of ‘The Pivot Podcast,’ Isiah Thomas opened up on uplifting his family from poverty. During the interview, one of the co-hosts asked Zeke which specific moment in the NBA legend’s life he thought he would be remembered for. The two-time champion replied the thing that the one thing he was most proud of and wanted people to look back on was how he helped his family to come out of poverty. To further support his statement he added, “I was the first one in my family to have a chance. So how do I continue to uplift and bring my family out of poverty.”

Thereafter, the two-time champion stated an intriguing fact. The 12-time NBA All-Star said that he knew many people back in Chicago were apparently ‘suffering’ despite earning vast sums of 30-40 million. On the other hand, Thomas expressed, “I made myself $400,000 and I thought I was rich.”?

Therefore, the 12x All-Star’s statements implied that he wanted the people to look back on how he uplifted his family from poverty with the help of basketball. Besides that, it also gave the fans a new perspective on Thomas’ family background.

Thomas went on to earn $16.7 million during his tenure of 13 years at the Pistons. Apart from that, according to ‘CA Knowledge,’ as of now in 2022, he has a net worth of $115 million. Therefore, it seems like basketball really helped Zeke to turn things around. It also helped him uplift his family from poverty.
