Payton II happens to be the son of Shaquille O’Neal’s former Miami Heat championship-winning teammate Gary Payton. Given their history, Shaunie Henderson might have been around Payton II while he was growing up, as she referred to him as ‘nephew’.

Gary Payton II was an integral part of the Stephen Curry-led Warriors team that won the 2022 championship last year. With the Warriors struggling with increasing luxury-tax bills, they traded off Payton II to the Trail Blazers, who offered him a three-year 26.1 million deal. However, with the exit of 21-year-old Wiseman, who cost Golden State more than Payton, the Warriors are likely to save $7 million in luxury tax this season and an estimated $30 million in the coming season.
