“Lunatics Were Running the Asylum, We Didn’t Have Any Parental Supervision”: Michael Jordan Movie Has a Special Place in Matt Damon’s Heart

The upcoming Michael Jordan biopic Air has created a buzz in Hollywood boulevard and the hoops community over the last few weeks. The Oscar award-winning director Ben Affleck mounted the project along with his great friend, Matt Damon. Only a few days away from the film’s worldwide release, Damon opened up about working in the film and listed out the reasons why the film holds a special place in his heart.

The film comprises an interesting cast, including Chris Rock, Jason Bateman, Damon, Viola Davis and many more. The film revolves around the sports brand Nike’s legendary Air Jordan deal with MJ, which changed the dynamics of the shoe industry. Interestingly, director Affleck also takes up the role of Nike CEO, Phil Knight in the film. The film is all set to release on April 5th worldwide.

In the last few weeks, the film crew has been industriously promoting the film across the country ahead of the global release. In a recent promotional interview with ET Canada, he opened up about his new role as a producer in the film. He said, “This was our first movie for our company. It felt kind of like the lunatics were running the Asylum… We didn’t have any parental supervision.” 

Notably, the Gone Girl star Ben Affleck and Damon co-founded the production house, Artists Equity, and Air is the first film under their banner. The duo has come a long way since their Oscar-winning collaboration for Good Will Hunting in 1997.

Moreover, Damon continued talking about the efforts of every department of the filmmaking crew. The film’s trailer recently dropped and hyped up the expectation surrounding the film. While the film is about Jordan’s path-breaking shoe deal, the trailer didn’t have a single shot of the Bulls legend. Moreover, some fans speculate that MJ isn’t there in the entire film. 

Who plays MJ in the film? 

As mentioned earlier, the trailer didn’t feature the artist who plays Michael Jordan, leaving the fans in confusion, whereas the trailer features MJ’s parents. However, another report suggested that actor Damian Young might don the role. MJ made major contributions to the film, even in the casting. Chris Tucker broke his long hiatus on the silver screen because of Jordan.
