Mikal Bridges appeared on JJ Redick’s The Old Man and the Three podcast to talk about the reasons that caused such a big debacle.

JJ Redick asked Mikal Bridges whether he felt embarrassed by their defeat against the Mavs. The Suns‘ star gave a very candid answer, “For sure, for sure“.
“I was definitely embarrassed. It sucks”, he added.
Bridges explained the adverse impact such a loss can have on a team. There are far-reaching implications of making history for the wrong reasons. This game would remind them of their failure every time they face a similar situation.
“Every time somebody talks about a game 7, you just know it’s gonna be thrown there“, he said. “All they remember is gonna be that game 7.”

Bridges had an exceptional season this year. In fact, with a defensive rating of 109.6, he was touted by many as a worthy candidate to be in contention for the DPOY award. Therefore, his disappointment in such an upsetting end to the season is justified.
Luka and the Mavs upset the best team in the NBA
The Mavericks absolutely vanquished the Suns at their own gym in a pivotal game 7 matchup in the Western Conference semifinals. The Suns had the best record in the NBA with an eight-game difference from the next team on the table. They were the betting favorites to win the series in five or six games, especially after going ahead 2-0 early in the matchup.
But the Mavs achieved the impossible by upending a 3-2 deficit. They bagged the ticket to the Western Conference finals after winning the last two eliminations games in the series, including the historic game 7 win at Footprint center in Phoenix.

In the match, Mavs had the biggest first-half lead in the history of the NBA. They led by 30-points, with Luka Doncic scoring the same amount of points as the entire Phoenix roster combined.
The match effectively put an end to Chris Paul‘s championship hopes. At 37, many thought this was his golden opportunity to cement his legacy as the ‘Point-God’ by winning a ring.
