If the Dallas Mavericks are anywhere in the talks involving possible title contenders, that’s all thanks to Luka Doncic. And if LeBron James, the greatest of all time, also thinks that Luka Doncic is one of the best and amongst his favorites in the league, how can anyone argue with that? However, it’s another kind of honor for James to actually want the young star as his business partner.

Luka Doncic behind ‘Team LeBron’

In LeBron’s most recent appearance on the show ‘Road Trippin’, he revealed that he wanted to pursue the Mavericks superstar for a shoe line that he wanted to start a few years ago. This is something even Luka was never aware of.

LeBron stated, “I wanted to begin ‘Team LeBron’ and have Luka (Doncic) as my first signing with Nike… I don’t believe that my guys at Nike was ready for that. Obviously, they were not, because he ended up going to [Michael] Jordan. I don’t know if Luka knows this.”

When asked about it in a press conference, Luka showed how much he appreciated LeBron for thinking of him. He said, “I felt special. It’s something you feel special about. Obviously, I didn’t know it before. Somebody sent it to me. That’s how I got to know it. It’s something special. Something I can’t explain.”

Why did Bron have the Mavericks star in mind?

At just 21, Luka has made a big name for himself in the league. This is going to be his third season, and he is already in conversation about being the MVP this coming year.

Doncic averaged 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists last season. He is that ray of hope who is expected to take the franchise forward and make them one of the feared teams in the Western Conference.’

However, there have been some concerns about Doncic’s fitness this season. But it doesn’t look like it’s going to hamper the way he plays much. He is still going to remain one of the most dominant players in the NBA. Luka is currently under contract with Nike for their Michael Jordan sneakers, which is probably why Nike can’t sign him for LeBron’s shoes.
