The Mavericks did not particularly enjoy a great offseason. They made just one massive development with a Luka Doncic max extension, but that was still a no-brainer. Apart from that, all Mark Cuban did was strengthen the front office and the coaching staff with the addition of the league’s most notable names.

But there is this one move, finishing which can certainly make them feel better ahead of the upcoming season. It is the signing of Goran Dragic and improving their backcourt. But it now looks like it’s a distant dream.

Goran Dragic to the Mavericks under thick soup

For the last couple of months, the rumors were tight that Goran Dragic will move to Dallas. Instead, the Heat traded him to Toronto in a massive swap for All-Star Kyle Lowry. Just like any Mavericks fan, even Goran wasn’t amused, as he claimed he had “higher ambitions” than playing for the Raptors.

This again gave rise to a “Goran to Mavs” anthem, and it appeared as if a buyout was on the cards. However, a recent report claims totally against that. Take a look –

As surprising as it gets, maybe the Raptors are awaiting October 1 to make any move in this direction. They’d want maximum return if they’re to trade the newly acquired All-Star.

If this trade is ever to take place, Luka Doncic will love the idea of having a point guard that can lead the bench. But to make that happen, the Mavs would have to shell out their latest acquisition of Moses Brown (via Boston). Plus, they might also have to give away Dwight Powell (which Canadians would love).

Perhaps a Moses Brown swap is what’s keeping the Raptors from making a move because the earliest they can trade him is October 1. The Raptors can hugely benefit from the 7’2” player’s wingspan, athleticism, and rebounding capability.
