Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks meteoric rise have taken the NBA by storm. The Bucks hadn’t won anything since Kareem Abdul Jabbar, but in 2021, they have risen from the ashes and conquered the peak again. They were led from the front by Giannis, who had blossomed into one of the best, if not the best player in the league.

Since they drafted Giannis, the Bucks have slowly developed their team. They got him another star in Khris Middleton and the duo has turned into one of the best. The Bucks also surrounded Giannis with key pieces and they have all chipped in their run. They also went out and got Jrue Holiday, who was instrumental in winning the championship. But it is still hard playing in a small market like Milwaukee.

“Nobody cares about us, ” says Giannis Antetokounmpo
Being in a small market, it is very hard to attract top-quality free agents to your team. Players would not want to come to the team and they have lesser nationally televised games. As such, they get lesser attention, even when they might be the best team in the league.
Giannis address this, as he says ” Nobody cares about us. You know we play in Milwaukee. Small market team, not a lot of attention. We just go out there and do our job and we’re all about winning, we’re about taking care of our families. We’re about enjoying the game and whatever it takes”

This has always been the problem with small-market teams. They will have some great players, but the lack of attention and money may force them to leave for a bigger team. Sometimes they even get relocated. They even get a lesser share of the pie and deserving players get looked over. That’s why the Bucks winning the title last year was very important for small market teams. And Giannis signing his extension proved his loyalty to the team. With this, he showed that the best players need not always play at a big market team.
