The Los Angeles Lakers have dug a hole for themselves this season and continuous losses are only making that hole deeper. Even the powerful performances from LeBron James are not able to shift the course of the franchise this season. Moreover, their second-best player, Anthony Davis, also sits out injured. Put simply, their roster has not worked, and while the expectations on them were sky high, the franchise has gone into a nosedive.

In their most recent outing, the Lakers endured a heavy loss. They fell to the New Orleans Pelicans by 28 points. Moreover, this game was an important one since the Pelicans are also in a similar position to the Lakers. As things stand, the only way for both teams to make the playoffs is via the play-in tournament.

“The way out for the Lakers is simple. They got to trade Anthony Davis. Ain’t nobody stupid, LeBron’s not going anywhere. LeBron shouldn’t go anywhere,” said Wiley.

“LeBron is still their best player, and at least most available player,” he added.

However, keeping LeBron James could pose an issue. At 37, it is highly uncertain as to when LeBron may retire. So the time to win is now more than ever. Moreover, if the Lakers decide to trade AD, it is essential that they receive a young established star in the league who is not as injury prone as AD.

This will help them build a new core around the acquired player once LeBron departs. Regardless, at present, things are in shambles in LA. If the Lakers can’t change course this season, there’s probably going to be major changes in the summer.
