The 2023 NCAA men’s basketball tournament tipped off on Tuesday, keeping the hoops community hooked on to their screens. One of the exciting aspects of the tournament is the innovative commercials played during the breaks. Especially the ones made by the hilarious trio, Charles Barkley, Samuel L. Jackson, and Spike Lee. However, this time the trio returned to the ritual along with Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson in a hilarious setup.
The trio takes part in a series of hilarious commercials for the brand Capital One every season. More often than not, the TV spots involve a series of short hysterical scenarios with the trio, along with special appearances from celebrities. Evidently, ace filmmaker Spike Lee directs these commercials. Notably, Barkley has also played a part in the creative side of the features. Fans missed the hilarious ads for a couple of years during the lockdown. However, they returned last year to continue the tradition.

The NBA postseason fever always begins early for basketball fans because of March Madness. Apart from witnessing the exciting young talents, the fans also await the Capital One commercials every year. Magic Johnson’s addition to TV spots this year left fans in a frenzy. The Lakers legend himself shared the 15-second feature on his Twitter. The tweet read, “Make every wish count this #MarchMadness.”

The video featured the hilarious trio seated in a living room, discussing Chuck’s glowing lamp on the table. The moment Chuck rubbed the lamp, Johnson appeared as a genie, asking for a wish.
As usual, the commercial had a comedic twist at the end. Despite Johnson’s warning to wish carefully, Barkley proceeded to ask for wings. Instead of the chicken wings he was hoping for, Barkley was given wings to fly. This left the Phoenix Suns legend hugely disappointed as he wondered, “How am I supposed to eat these?“
Spike Lee’s affinity with the NBA

Academy Award-winning director Lee has directed several commercials involving NBA superstars. Notably, he directed the early 90s Nike TV spots of Michael Jordan. Moreover, Lee has been a season ticket holder for the New York Knicks for almost 3 decades now is considered the biggest fan of the franchise.
On the other hand, Samuel L. Jackson and Magic Johnson have been close buddies for a long time. They engaged in various philanthropic activities in the past and hang out on yachts and at family dinners often.
