Good times have been pouring over the Los Angeles Lakers recently. Notably, their biggest concern over LeBron James’ future ended. The King signed a two-year extension solidifying his intentions in the city of LA. However, one problem still looms over the Lakers. The 17-time champions are still looking to find the right move for Russell Westbrook.

After last season’s poor showing, one thing was clear, Brodie perhaps isn’t the answer for the purple and gold. The all-time triple-double leader had one of the worst seasons in his career. Likewise, the Lakers want to make the most out of their dynamic duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Hence, trade talks have been active throughout the off-season. And the biggest draw has been the Brooklyn Nets’ Kyrie Irving. The front office is still confident about the seven-time All-Star coming to LA.

After an abysmal season with his hometown side, Westbrook’s reputation took a big hit. But James is still rocking with his point guard. He came out on Twitter and gave the former MVP a boost. LeBron James said: “Can’t wait for him to go off this season.”

While his future with the Los Angeles Lakers seems uncertain, James’ recent move has put fans in a frenzy. Westbrook experienced a new low last season. One of the most unique guards in NBA history became arguably the laughing stock of the league. Brodie’s every mistake came under the spotlight. Despite putting up 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists on a star roster last season, Westbrook was regularly subject to major criticism.

However, Westbrook may still have time to climb right back up. And James is right there to support him. While the trade talks might still be a top priority, there is also a chance the future Hall of Famer remains with the Lakers.

Can LA still dream if Westbrook stays?

A season of disasters got one thing to the front, Westbrook’s style wasn’t fitting with the Lakers. For him, playing off the ball was new. Brodie has been the man commanding the plays for his entire career. Hence, the sudden shift might have been the reason he completely fell apart. However, now with the new management, there is hope for change.

The new head coach Darvin Ham is ready to embrace Westbrook as a part of the process. But sacrifices will have to be made. Ham wants the nine-time All-Star to take a much more defensive approach. With LeBron James on the floor, Westbrook will likely have to take the back seat and adapt to his new role.

New signings such as Patrick Beverley provide a great mix of shooting and defense. However, the expectations from a former MVP of the NBA are always high. Wanting to shut down all the noise, it will be a mammoth task for Brodie to make it back.
