He actually chose football over basketball and also revealed at which age he started playing both sports. LeBron said, “I’ve been playing football since I was nine and basketball. I just started playing sports when I was nine. Nothing like a football as much as a basketball. I just want to keep something off of my high school career and just play to my capability.”
As destiny would go, LeBron turned into one of the hottest prospects entering the NBA draft. He was picked #1 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2003 draft. Moreover, he was drafted right after High School! However, it was quite possible LeBron could’ve chosen a different sport.

Considering LeBron’s insane athleticism and work ethic, he probably would’ve excelled in the NFL as well. Needless to say, a duo of LeBron James and Tom Brady would shatter all records in the NFL.
LeBron James once commented on Tom Brady’s GOAT status
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Tom Brady are widely regarded as two of the greatest players and athletes ever. However, it seems LeBron does not think Tom Brady is the GOAT athlete.
When asked about his thoughts on Brady, LeBron had an interesting answer. James said, “My only argument with a football player being the greatest athlete of all time is that they only gotta play one side of the floor, man.”
He further added, “Yes, Brady is unbelievable. Brady is the greatest quarterback I’ve ever seen but he affects the game one way.”
