Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James’ Lakers teammate, could be saying his final goodbyes to his old buddy. Last season, the 2003 NBA draft superstars joined forces to attempt a run at the NBA title, however, that ambition was soon dashed. And now, as Anthony’s championship-less career nears its end, the veteran might be contemplating a reunion with the franchise that elevated him to superstar status.

As per recent reports, Carmelo Anthony is interested in returning to the New York Knicks. According to NBA Insider Jake Fischer, he has heard whispers around the league that the forward is eyeing a reunion. However, it is uncertain whether the Knicks plan to bring back their long-gone crowd favorite.

Anthony unquestionably enjoyed his finest seasons in a Knicks jersey. As the franchise labored to put the right pieces around him, Anthony was their sole shining light. Those days, though, are long gone, as the 38-year-old no longer possesses the offensive firepower he once had.

Despite his age, Anthony has been a solid rotation player who can still contribute and get buckets off the bench. He averaged 13.3 points on 44.1 percent shooting from the field for the Lakers last season. He also emerged as one of their better 3-point shooters, nailing 37.5 percent of his attempts.

Another attempt at the NBA title with the Lakers or a blockbuster reunion with The Big Apple?

The Los Angeles Lakers made several acquisitions last offseason, but they proved ineffective. The squad failed to find its footing from the beginning of the season and crashed out well before its intended destination. In fact, they missed the playoffs entirely as they didn’t even make it to the Play-in tournament.

As the new season approaches, the Lakers will be aiming to make up for last season’s shortcomings. They’ll aim to hit the ground running, find chemistry, and make another push at the NBA championship. The question is whether Carmelo Anthony will be there to assist or not.

Now, as Fischer indicated, the idea of a sensational reunion isn’t supposed to pique the New York Knicks‘ interest. But it truly would be a sweet ending to what has been an incredible career. And fair to say, the Knicks fans have some fond memories of their former superstar.

Anthony averaged 24.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in seven beautiful seasons in New York. He was also named an All-Star every year. And who can forget his career night, where he poured in 62 points against Charlotte Bobcats? He recorded the highest single-game point total at Madison Square Garden, which is yet to be broken.
