A royal mess. That?s what we are calling it now. The Lakers have been stuck at the same seed for a long, long time and 9th does not particularly suit them. LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis. These are the names you mention when we discuss the words wins, records, experience, veterans, and talent. But this season has been anything but those words. This may sound harsh, but the Lakers have been underwhelming and no one would disagree.

WATCH: Comparison between James and Abdul-Jabbar.

It would be fair to call it a one-man show when it comes to the Lakers. LeBron at 37 has had his best average this season so far (28.9 points) since 2009-2010 (29.7 points). Many present a case to show how James is eager to achieve the record for most points in the history of the game. But in pursuit of breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?s record of most points, LeBron is providing points. Even if that is the argument, the Lakers still are not finding their due success.

LeBron James needs help at the Lakers

LeBron insisted the Lakers go for Russell Westbrook in the off-season. With the likes of Anthony Davis and veteran Carmelo Anthony, the roster looked stacked when Russ joined in. But the plan did not meet the expectations. Russ and James both enjoy possession of the ball and like to carry the team. Although James has the versatility to play guard-forward or even center as we saw in their Tuesday?s loss, Westbrook and James do not click well enough to take the league by storm.

Recently on the YouTube show Speak For Yourself, Ric Morrison discussed what the Lakers lack and what they need. He shed some light on how the Lakers need to change LeBron?s role to use his tremendous shooting and closing abilities and channel them into successful results.

They discussed how even if they part ways with an injury-prone Anthony Davis, the Lakers still might need someone to carry the team.

?This is answering the question about LeBron James carrying or leading or whatever verb we want to use.? Ric Morrison discussed, “LeBron James is now at the point in his career where? see your point I think you mentioned like… Russ West was supposed to get them to the finish line and then LeBron James could close the deal.”

“I believe he is still capable of that. And in fact, I think he?s probably as good of a closer now as he ever has been because he has that mid-range on lockdown.”

He continued, ?You don’t need just a robin, you don’t need just a co-star. You need to reverse these roles and have LeBron James as the robin, as the closer. As the Kyrie Irving to Lebron James in Cleveland, that’s what needs to happen at this point.?

The season is nearing the end. It is fair to say the Lakers are struggling. All these issues will be resolved in the future in the hope of a better next season. But for now, LeBron and the Lakers need to finish the regular season the best they can if they have any hopes to qualify for the playoffs?
