Other than being an excellent player in the league, LeBron James is also a great individual outside the court. The Los Angeles Lakers star is involved in several philanthropic works. In 2017, King James was included in Time’s list of 100 most influential people in the world. Over the years, James has supported organizations that work for the well-being of underprivileged kids. Furthermore, the former MVP also believes in gender equality and has always been vocal about it. In fact, he once even helped a Hollywood actress get fair pay for a Netflix miniseries.

Golden Globe award winner, Octavia Spencer disclosed that LeBron James once helped her with negotiations for a drama series. The actress was in talks for the biopic on Madam C.J. Walker, America’s first black self-made millionaire. It was when she was discussing the pay that James jumped into the conversation to help her out.

Like James, Spencer is exceptionally vocal about the unfair pay for Hollywood actresses. Earlier, Spencer said that fellow actress, Jessica Chastain too had helped Spencer get equal pay for a certain movie.

Octavia Spencer’s starrer, Self Made is based on Madam C.J. Walker. The miniseries has an extended star cast that includes Tiffany Haddish, Carmen Ejogo, Garrett Morris, and several others. The Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James acted as the executive producer of the series. The biopic was fairly well-received by audiences and critics, who mostly commended Spencer’s acting skills. Spencer revealed how James helped her with her salary for the miniseries.

“I have to say, when I was negotiating my deal for ‘Madam C.J.,’ LeBron James had to intervene,” Spencer said at the Sundance Film Festival panel. As per reports, Octavia Spencer has an estimated net worth of $14 million.

LeBron James owns several businesses. Among them is the SpringHill Company that he co-founded with businessman Maverick Carter. James had previously said that he aims to empower the community and help creators achieve their goals.

With a tagline, ‘More Than an Athlete’, LeBron and Carter created the company in 2020 after merging their three media businesses together. In 2021, the company valuation was estimated to be at $725 million.

Spencer once praised Chastain for speaking up on her behalf and making sure they got the same pay. The duo worked together in a movie called The Help, where Spencer played the role of a maid, while Chastain played a socialite who hired Spencer’s character in the movie.
