The chances of a potential reunion between Kyrie Irving and LeBron James seem more uncertain by the day; recent reports state that the Los Angeles Lakers have made no progress in working out a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. Therefore, a reunion between the two 2016 world champions, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, is not looking very probable at the moment.

Not to mention, Kyrie Irving exercised his $36.9 million player option last month before the June 29th deadline. As a result, the chances of the 30-year-old guard leaving Brooklyn decreased significantly. However, there was still the possibility that Irving was just trying to hype up his salary by deciding not to leave on a terminating contract.

In the meantime, reports even claimed that two more teams alongside the Lakers had been on the lookout to land Irving- The Dallas Mavericks and the Philadelphia 76ers. Both teams require a reliable second option to their centerpiece superstars.

Reports claim a LeBron James Kyrie Irving reunion is unlikely

The Athletic’s Shams Charania recently appeared on the Pat McAfee Show to discuss NBA offseason trades. Meanwhile, Charania stated a potential Kyrie Irving trade to the Lakers is highly unlikely.

In fact, he reported that the Lakers have made no traction in the process. “There’s no traction on any type of a Lakers deal for Kyrie Irving,” Charania told McAfee. “I’m not quite sure we’re gonna see that take place,” he added.

However, there’s still no update on a potential Kyrie Irving trade to the Sixers or the Mavericks. With Kevin Durant leaving Brooklyn, it will be interesting to see Kyrie’s plan for the upcoming season.

Kyrie Irving as a fix to the Lakers’ roster

Kyrie Irving could play a significant role in the Russell Westbrook puzzle that the Lakers are desperately trying to solve. In the 2021-22 season, the Lakers failed to qualify for the playoffs with three MVP-caliber players on the roster.

Notably, the majority of the blame fell on Westbrook. The 2017 MVP failed to play in tandem with the team with LeBron James as the chief ball-handler.

Kyrie Irving could be a fix to that problem. In fact, the Nets guard has shown in the past that he can be a reliable second option without the ball in hand. Moreover, he has the ability to make clutch shots in crunch time.
