Amid the countless rumors surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers with the NBA trade deadline around the corner, the Orlando Magic may also have something to offer. Not long ago, LeBron James made his intentions clear about winning now without further ado. Since then, Rob Pelinka and Co have been under immense pressure to improve the roster before the NBA trade deadline on Feb 09, 2023. Though nothing has materialized so far, a potential trade rumor involving the Magic may have some merit.
According to sources, the Lakers may look to acquire veteran sharpshooter Terrence Ross from the Orlando Magic. Moreover, the trade involving the former slam dunk champion may involve some draft capital that the Lakers have notoriously refused to give away.

The Lakers are having yet another disappointing season this year. Despite the MVP-like contributions from 38-year-old LeBron James, they have not been able to add enough wins to the column. Currently, the LA side sit out of the play-in tournament as the 13th seed in the Western Conference with an underwhelming record of 20-24. Therefore, they have become one hottest destination in the NBA trade market. However, due to the management’s reluctance to give away their 2027 and 2029 first-round picks, most of these rumors have remained just that, rumors. But with increasing pressure from fans, Pelinka and Co might finally make a move.
According to a Sports Illustrated report, the Lakers might get in bed with the Orlando Magic to acquire the veteran sharpshooter Terrence Ross. The Lakers may acquire the 31-year-old forward by giving away Patrick Beverley and the 2023 Chicago Bulls’ second-round pick. Though the certainty of the trade cannot be ascertained, it has some merit compared to past bizarre rumors from Lakers fans.
The former NBA-Slam dunk champion has been in Orlando for most of his career, playing with them since the 2016-17 NBA season. Consequently, he has developed a following in the orange county. But the current circumstances of the team may force Ross out of town. The Magic are on a complete rebuild. Moreover, the fresh talent coming in from the 2023 NBA draft may leave little to no room on the roster. Furthermore, Ross will be a free agent in the summer after the season. Thus the Magic will benefit from leveraging Ross to get a second-round pick.
Incidentally, this is not the only time Ross was part of Orlando’s rumors with LA.
Terrence Ross once got almost tricked into getting traded to the Clippers
The rumor clouds surrounding Ross’ departure from Orlando were prevalent even this off-season. With a flurry of trades hitting the NBA world on draft night, Ross was also expected to be a part of these. Consequently, some fans decided to trick him when the veteran forward was live-streaming on draft night.
