LeBron James and Stephen Curry have been the face of the NBA for the past decade. Since 2010, every NBA finals has included at least one of the two superstars. James’ Cavaliers and Curry’s Warriors faced off against each other in the NBA finals for four straight years. But before the start of this historic rivalry, the Warriors came very close to signing the King himself.

The last 10 years were dominated by the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The two teams were among the greatest teams ever to be assembled. Many fans regard their rivalry as one of the greatest team rivalries, like the Lakers and Celtics.

The Storied relationship between LeBron James and Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry and LeBron James have been close friends off the court despite their on-court rivalry. Both were born in the same city and in the same hospital. Their relationship began when James attended one of Curry’s college games in 2008.

Curry was seemingly just an amateur player when LeBron James, arguably the best player then, attended one of his college games to see the point guard play. Their relationship took off; LeBron was impressed by Curry’s play and believed that the skinny point guard would become something great. Since Curry entered the league, the two met often and had an amicable relationship.

In 2014, the King was a free agent, looking to move on from Miami. Surprisingly, the Golden State Warriors attempted to sign James. But LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, wasn’t interested in the offers made by the Warriors. The Athletic’s?Marcus Thompson?reported,?“LeBron James had his chance. In 2014, the Warriors wanted in on the sweepstakes. His contract in Miami was ending and he was taking meetings, allowing teams to make their pitches. The Warriors wanted in.”?The Warriors had no success in the postseason and had hired a new head coach then. The team made its best effort to sign the King, but James returned to his hometown team, Cleveland Cavaliers, after his tenure in Miami.?

Warriors vs Cavaliers – Stephen Curry vs LeBron James!

The Golden State Warriors were led by the 6’2” nimble point guard Stephen Curry alongside Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. The trio has won four titles together. Former MVP Kevin Durant joined the Warriors in 2017, forming one of the greatest teams ever. The Warriors had one of the most incredible dynastic runs in the league’s history. The team made it to five straight NBA finals, winning three titles in the process.

The Warriors faced off against the King and Cleveland Cavaliers in four of those five finals appearances. LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love were the key players of the Cavaliers squad. The Cavs dominated the eastern conference every year, but they would fall short to the Warriors in the NBA finals. Cleveland managed to beat the Warriors only once in the finals in 2016. LeBron James had one of the best finals series of his career, which fueled the greatest comeback in the history of the NBA. Cleveland was down 3-1, but due to the herculean efforts of James, the Cavs won the next four games, winning the championship in a thrilling seven-game series. The King, after the series, was cemented among the greats and entered the mount Rushmore of basketball.
