Christmas is just around the corner and LeBron James got his gift early in the form of praise. The GOAT debate is a never-ending saga in the sports world. This is the one argument that could be stretched for ages without reaching any conclusions. One such long-standing GOAT debate in a basketball sport is between Michael Jordan and LeBron James. However, the irony that both athletes never got to play in the same era, is not lost.

King James’ NBA career began when His Airness decided to officially exit the league. It probably could have been easier to settle the debate if both athletes had the opportunity to play a one-on-one game. However, there’s little to no chance of that ever happening. Nevertheless, a former NBA star has established who really is the GOAT according to him.

Former Boston Celtics player Kendrick Perkins had once announced who he thought was the greatest of all. In 2020, the 2008 NBA champion made a video of him singing his own made-up Christmas song. Perkins’ song had an NBA twist to it and included the names of several basketball legends. However, the song also established that LeBron James was the ultimate GOAT. The same year, ESPN released a ranking of the greatest NBA players of all-time, where MJ ranked No. 1 and LeBron ranked No. 2. Following that, Perkins made some compelling arguments in James’ support.

In an episode of NBA on ESPN, the video was replayed following which the host asked Perkins, via virtual call, if he still stood by his statement. Perkins, who was dressed up as Santa Clause, replied that he still considered LeBron the greatest of all.

Perkins stated, “Yeah I stand by it and Imma double down on it. And this is just adding on to the LeBron legacy. And we gotta continue, continue to appreciate his greatness while we can, while he’s still giving it, while he’s still playin’. Listen, when it comes down to Bron and it comes down to him, reaching the milestones and breaking records. And he’s gonna continue to break records. This is why he is the GOAT.”

While Perkins has already given his verdict, millions of NBA fans still believe that not LeBron but MJ is the GOAT.

Michael Jordan or LeBron James?

Michael Jordan joined NBA in 1984 and revolutionized the sport during his over decade-long career. The hall of Famer put the Chicago Bulls on the map again and won two three-peats with the red and black team. MJ is considered one of the greatest basketball players in the league’s history and many consider him the greatest of all time.

On the other hand, LeBron James entered the league in 2003, the same year that Jordan announced his third and final retirement. James led the Miami Heat to two back-to-back championships and helped the Cleveland Cavaliers win their first-ever championship title. The four-time NBA champion is only a few points away from dethroning NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all-time leading scorer. Therefore, many consider that the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is the ultimate GOAT.
