Tragedy ended up striking the Phelps household earlier this week. Legendary swimmer Michael Phelps recently revealed the news of his father passing away. Phelps shared pictures of his father on his Instagram account a few days ago with a heartwarming caption. Subsequently, celebrities and athletes from around the world sent him condolences during such a difficult time.
Michael Phelps shared three pictures of his father on social media. In the first picture, we can see a young Phelps standing next to his father in his State Trooper uniform. The next picture is Michael holding his baby while his father looks over. And the third picture is Phelps? father holding his grandchild.

The NBA family send their condolences
Phelps went on to his official Instagram account to upload these pictures with the caption ?You?ll always be my dad. And I?ll always be your son. Love you dad and I will miss you. rip dad.? Many celebrities and athletes posted comments on his picture to express their heartwarming support.
One of them is former NBA player J.R. Smith. Smith played for 15 seasons in the NBA with five different teams. He won two NBA championships playing alongside LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The former NBA player posted an emoji of open palms held together in a praying manner on Phelps? Instagram post. Smith wasn?t the only one from the NBA family to give his condolences.

Former NBA player Chandler Parsons also paid his respects. He commented, ?Thinking of u my brotha.? Other celebrities who sent Phelps some wishes were Australian singer and swimmer Cody Simpson and ski racer Lindsey Vonn.

Struggles Phelps had growing up
Michael?s parents divorced when he was just 9 years old and the two ended up drifting apart over the next decade. As Phelps had to deal with some legal issues, both father and son ended up reconnecting.
In 2016, Phelps told ESPN that having a strained relationship with his dad helped him turn into a much better father himself. The 23-time Olympic gold medalist learned about what it is like to be a good father through his own series of experiences.
