The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Washington Wizards 130-119 on Sunday night, led by a strong showing from Anthony Davis with 55 points. The Lakers dominated three out of the four quarters of the game. LeBron James and Lonnie Walker IV also chipped in with important contributions of 29 and 20 points respectively. While the Capital One Arena was in awe of Davis’ masterclass, one moment involving LeBron James and Patrick Beverley got fans up on their feet. And it also left NBA fans wheezing on social media.

During the 4th quarter of the game, the Lakers were leading by 16 points when LeBron James forced a turnover for the Washington Wizards. He deflected the ball away from the Lakers backcourt, dribbled past one Wizards defender and executed his signature dunk. Following this, the arena erupted in cheers. However, what also caught the attention of fans was Patrick Beverley’s celebration after King James’ dunk.

After LeBron James dunked, he stood and stared at the crowd in a typical fashion. His teammate Patrick Beverley rushed in and pushed him from the back. Initially, it seemed like the push left James startled. However, when he realized that it was Beverley, the duo punched each other’s chest and continued celebrating the dunk.

However, fans couldn’t gloss over the sheer intensity with which Pat Bev pushed and shoved LeBron. On the Facebook comment sections, fans were quick to interpret the four-time NBA Champions’ reaction. One fan, in particular, said, “Patrick Beverley looked like he was trying to fight LeBron James after his dunk.” 

Some claimed that Beverley had forgotten for a second that he was LeBron’s teammate. Most comments revolved around fans stating that the 18-time All-Star simply looked irritated with that push.

Anthony Davis has been sublime on the court for the Lakers in the last few games. His recent performances have put him on the list of potential season MVPs. His teammate, LeBron James agrees with the same. While stating that Davis’ performance was unbelievable, James said, “On both sides of the floor. I mean, playing like the MVP of this league. Just straight dominance.”

While the eight-time NBA All-Star piles up heaps of praise for his performance, his sole goal is to win the championship. For Davis, putting the team ahead of his individual performances is the key to success. He said, “If your mindset is on winning a championship, the rest will take care of itself. That’s always been my thought.”
