On January 26, 2022, it will be the two-year anniversary of the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of Kobe Bryant and eight others. For years now, players and fans have always managed to pay their respects in every possible way. As the 2021-22 season progresses, LeBron James has once again found a way to honor the late Los Angeles Lakers legend.

A few days before his death in 2020, James made the news for passing Kobe Bryant on the all-time passing list. This season, James has found a way to pay his tribute in another unique way.

LeBron James pays tribute to Kobe Bryant, fans react online

With January 26 already here, the Lakers themselves shared an incredible stat that once again connects James and Bryant. Tonight @KingJames has tied Lakers Legend Kobe Bryant for 14th-most games played in NBA history,” the Lakers wrote. This means that both James and Bryant have now played the 14th most games in the NBA.

James had long promised to carry forward Bryant’s legacy, fulfilling that promise that very year as the Lakers won the 2020 title.

Now, James is working towards continuing that promise.

Fans have always remained supportive of James passing or tying Kobe Bryant’s records, this one being no different. “wow, on the eve of 2 years since Kobe’s passing too,” wrote one fan, remembering the Black Mamba.

“Lebron and Kobe on this day is always something Special,” another man mentioned, the meaning of the events not lost on them. Another fan said, “Please. Please. I’m gonna start sobbing. Stop”. Even after years, Bryant’s passing away seems unreal to others.

The five-time NBA Champion was on his way to Thousand Oaks with his 13-year-old daughter and seven others on the day of tragedy. The incident was mourned worldwide, everyone unable to believe the Lakers legend is no more. Including LeBron James, the tributes never stopped pouring in.

How long did Bryant play with the Lakers?

Bryant – who retired in 2016 – spent all of his 20 years of the NBA with the Lakers. He won five titles with the team, which include one three-peat (2000 to 2002) and one two-peat (2009, 2010). Easily remembered as one of the greatest of all times, James’ addition to the Lakers in 2018 was a cherry on top for the fans.
