Looking at the game today, athleticism and fast pace is prevailing. Hence, having an array of young players helps an organization accordingly. But something that can not be ignored is skill and experience. A perfect example of such a team is the Lakers this season.

While Los Angeles Lakers have been active through the off season, they have been hunting for veterans. Notably, since signing Russell Westbrook, they have signed up vets such as Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard. Because of this, it has created a narrative about them being old. But Melo hit right back at them in a recent interaction.

Carmelo Anthony hits back at the media

Like many, Melo is one of the many players that the Lakers have added to their roster in the off season. Recently, he gave it back to the media for creating the narrative of the purple and gold being an old team. He himself is a part of the narrative, being a 37 YO league veteran.

Carmelo Anthony said, “You guys are baiting people to start a debate. We get it. We laugh at it and take it with a grain of salt. Everybody on the outside have their opinions about it. We know what we have to do. If and when it does happen, winning a championship, that’s the fun part.”

Evidently, Melo is tired of the narrative that the Lakers are weak just because they are relatively older. While age may be much, experience is equally high on their roster. Moreover, despite age, the players were crucial players in their previous stints. Melo averaged 13 points in just 25 minutes with Portland last season and was their key player of the bench.

Hence, saying that they are weak due to age is an unjust argument. All of them are proof that age is just a number and not a deciding factor in finding success. But do the Lakers have a realistic chance at winning it all?

Can Los Angeles Lakers win?

While it may come as a surprise, the Lakers have a realistic chance at winning. There are two main reasons for this.

First, their experience is off the charts. While being young has its advantages, experience in the playoffs can make all the difference. And this team has a whole world of experience, especially with players such as LeBron James and Russell Westbrook.

Secondly, their depth. Even though old, the depth that the Lakers hold is valuable for any team. They have managed to solve their problems from last season with their signings this season. However, one downside is having so many big names on one team, it may be difficult to find the right groove to work together.
