One of the major causes for the Lakers’ inconsistency this year has been the absence of LeBron James. It was expected that the ageing squad would face adversities along the way; yet, James’ injury woes this early have come as a shock to Frank Vogel. During the side’s narrow victory against the Houston Rockets, LeBron suffered abdominal pain. This has sidelined him for a few games now, but good news awaits the franchise.

The Lakers were the favorites going in to the new season. With the acquisition of Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, and the influx of young prodigies such as Malik Monk, the yellow brigade started as immediate contenders for the title. On the contrary, they are experiencing a see-saw campaign. In spite of sitting within the top-8, their performances have been unconvincing, to say the least. Struggling to win against minnows on paper, the side will have major difficulties when they come up against the best teams –  and they already did, in their opening fixture against the Warriors.

An 18-time All-star, James has been on the receiving end of multiple injuries over the years. As a result, he has phenomenal fitness levels which have kept him active on the circuit. Regarding his latest abdominal strain, coach Frank Vogel hoped that the former NBA champion’s injury was minimal. He will be re-examined, but a latest report claims that he will return soon. After all, an abdominal strain has caused players to miss an average of merely 3-4 games over the past few seasons.

According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, James won’t miss out on a lot more action. “He may have to do some reconditioning a little bit, but this is not going to keep him out an extended period. He definitely has shown his age here on some of these muscle injuries like he had with the groin injury two years ago, there’s no doubt about that. But this is not something that is going to dramatically impact his ability,” reported Windhorst. Thus, the King is likely to be back soon.

The positive update on James’ injury crisis will come as a huge relief to Lakers fans. As Westbrook stated himself, people perhaps underestimate the impact of LA’s injury list. Provided ‘Bron’ rejoins sooner rather than later, the franchise can restart their bid for dominance in the West.
