The Brooklyn Nets recently fired their head coach, Steve Nash, after a dismal start to the 2021-22 season. Under his tutelage, the Nets failed to reach their intended destination. However, many believe the NBA legend shouldn’t be thrown under the bus for his team’s shortcomings. Nick Young, his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, was one of several who had Captain Canada’s back.
Steve Nash’s head coaching stint in Brooklyn lasted two years. And fair to say, he failed to make any strides with his squad. Despite making the playoffs on both occasions, the Nets were unable to capture the treasure they had set sail for. After a disappointing start to the season, the Nets’ front office decided to end ties with their head coach.

Nick Young made an appearance on “No Chill with Gilbert Arenas”. Sitting next to him was his good friend Gilbert Arenas, with whom he discussed?the turmoil of a situation in Brooklyn.?He argued that Nash was unfortunate to be placed in an unfavorable situation. Furthermore, he went on to suggest that if Nash had been in the same situation as Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors, he would have won a ring as well.
Nick Young had Steve Nash’s back, arguing that his situation was unfavorable
Steve Kerr was named head coach of the Golden State Warriors in 2014. His resume, however, showed no prior coaching experience. Still, the Warriors’ front office trusted him to take over the helm in Dub Nation. Fair to say, his game plan worked like a charm for the team as the Warriors went on to claim the NBA championship in his first season as the head coach.
Steve Nash joined the Brooklyn Nets, becoming another former player who desired to put his coaching ability to the test. The former two-time MVP managed a squad brimming with star talent. However, he failed to make any major strides as their coach. Keeping this in mind, Nick Young defended Nash. The former Warriors player argued that if Nash had been in Kerr’s shoes, he, too, would have won an NBA championship as a coach.

?If you put Steve Nash in Steve Kerr?s spot, I think he still get a ring,? the former NBA champion said.
In response, Gilbert Arenas stated that the most fascinating aspect of Kerr winning a championship in his first season was that all of the players were unsuccessful before winning a championship together. Young then moved the focus to the tumultuous situation in Brooklyn, highlighting?how Nash got embroiled in it.
?I think he got on a team where KD and Kyrie is in a situation where they?re trying to find themselves mentally too ? off the court more than on the court,” Young added.
NBA fans react to Young’s questionable take
Steve Kerr has undoubtedly been the architect behind the Warriors’ offensive onslaught in recent years. His game plan has wonderfully complemented the game of players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, with the human snipers torturing their opponents with their devastating shooting on a nightly basis. Furthermore, the Warriors have taken home four NBA titles under Kerr’s supervision.
As for Steve Nash, he did a good job for the most part. However, he failed to take the Nets past the finish line and was eventually fired. It’s understandable that the previous few years in Brooklyn have been packed with a great deal of turmoil, which hasn’t been beneficial for him. Therefore, Young argues that Nash’s situation wasn’t favorable.
