All year long, the stars shine on the superstars of the NBA. However, the All-Star weekend gives an opportunity for the next generation to show off their skills. The Rising Stars game is a staple at the All-Star event every year. The best of rookies and sophomores line up and battle it out for glory. This year, the G-League talents got their much-earned spotlight. NBA heritage, Scotty Pippen Jr. was named into the competition for Team Jason. And his mother, Larsa Pippen jumped up with joy.

The eldest son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen and Larsa first announced himself during his stint in the G-League. As the starting point guard for the South Bay Lakers, the 22-year-old displayed a wide array of scoring tools. While he doesn’t have the size and athleticism of his father, Scotty Pippen Jr. is an elite shooter. Notably, the 6,1″ Lakers star connected on 41% of his threes in the G-League while averaging 23.5 points a night.

He is yet to get a real shot with the Lakers. However, the 22-year-old talent has certainly aroused many with his skills. That was probably why the NBA didn’t have to think twice before giving him an invite to the Rising Star game. Unsurprisingly, Larsa Pippen was a happy mother end even dedicated a video to him.

Being a Rising Star pretty much puts the label of ‘next’ on one’s shoulder. This year’s mini-tournament focused on four teams. Three NBA veterans drafted among the rookies and sophomores of the league. On the other hand, 2011 NBA champion Jason Terry dived into the pool of G-League stars. The stage was set for the most exceptional young talents all across the NBA to make their marks. Pippen Jr.’s G-League resume made him a blind pick for Terry’s side.

Reacting to the big moment, Larsa Pippen shared a special video on her Instagram for her 22-year-old son.

Team Jason’s journey lasted only one game as they lost 40-32 in the elimination tournament. Scotty Pippen Jr. logged in for 8 minutes and finished with 5 points on the night. The 22-year-old star’s time at the All-Star weekend might have been brief, but the finish to the Rising Star game made it all worth it.

Team Pau and Team Jaokim came face to face in the finals. Both sides went after the target score of 25. It was a race to the finish line. In one of the wildest game winners, New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado called game with a stupendous three.

The next generation isn’t here to play around. Each star showed the potential to be the ‘next big thing’ in the NBA. For Pippen, his road ought to be hard. As a relatively shorter guard, getting opportunities will arguably be tough. But he has an attractive set of gifts and a keen understanding of the game. No matter what the outcome, Larsa Pippen has seen her son realize his dream and couldn’t be any more proud.
