The vice president of basketball operations and general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers Rob Pelinka has reportedly agreed to a four-year contract extension with the franchise. The last season’s performance is something the Lakers don’t want to remember. Before the start of the new season, the LeBron James-led Lakers can be seen making refinements on the benches and in the management.

This season, the Lakers will be guided by a new coach, Darvin Ham, and will feature several new faces on the roster. The Lakers chose to sign a contract extension with Rob Pelinka after regaining confidence in him to lead the franchise. Pelinka is arguably one of the most controversial figures in Lakers management. That is why supporters appear to be skeptical about his new contract.

Pelinka has been with the Lakers since 2017. He signed LeBron James in free agency in 2018 and afterward added Anthony Davis to the roster in 2019. And the duo was the leading contributor to the Lakers’ glory in 2020.

The contract extension news was initially reported by Yahoo Sports. Jeanie Buss, the president of the Los Angeles Lakers organization, put her trust in Pelinka and offered him a contract extension through 2026. The contract was called into consideration following the Lakers’ disappointing season last year. The 2020 NBA champions failed to even qualify for the play-in tournament last season.

Chris Haynes, an NBA insider for Yahoo Sports, posted an article about the contract on his Twitter account. However, there seems to be unhappiness among fans in the comment section. Currently, the tweet has more than 1700 likes and 400 retweets.

The disappointment seems to be real for Lakers fans. But, in the end, no matter what happens behind the doors, fans will be hoping for a memorable season this year. LeBron James and co. are upbeat about the Lakers’ pre-season matchup against the Golden State Warriors on October 10th. If they win it’ll give much-desired relief to fans after ending up 0-3 in pre-season so far.
