Rajon Rondo and Anthony Davis go way back as teammates. Initially, Rondo joined Davis in New Orleans while he was developing into the superstar that he is today. And when Davis joined the Los Angeles Lakers, Rondo and Davis were reunited and even went on to win an NBA championship together. Both were integral to the Lakers’ chip in 2020.
AD says Rondo is already a coach
Anthony Davis spoke to the press after the Lakers’ win over the Atlanta Hawks. Rondo took on his former team with his new team, the Hawks, but could not guide them to victory. However, after the game, Davis had high praise for Rondo. He believes that Rondo can become a great basketball coach after he calls time on his playing career because he is one informally already.

AD said, “That’s always been his dream to be a coach… He’s a coach on the floor even when he’s not playing he’s coaching… I can definitely see him being a head coach. I think that’s what he wants to do… He’ll make one hell of a coach.”

Many Lakers’ players have come out in the past and spoken of Rondo’s importance. During his time in Los Angeles, he and LeBron James were the two leaders of the team. During film sessions and practices, James and Rondo would be the veterans who gave the younger players advice and instructions on how to play against certain sets of defenses.

Rajon Rondo is still running key offensive plays
During the NBA playoffs, Rondo turned into ‘Playoff Rondo’ and was the third-best player for the Lakers. Whenever LeBron and AD took rest, Rondo would guide the second unit to maintain pressure on the opposition and uphold their advantage. Rondo was the driving force for them, calling plays and telling players where to be as he brought the ball down the court.

Many players have called Rondo the quintessential point-guard. He isn’t focused on his own scoring numbers, but rather on helping the team. In his prime, Rondo led the league in assists on multiple occasions. But even now, Rondo provides invaluable veteran experience to whichever team he plays on.
