One of the most talked about basketball stars of 2022, Brittney Griner, made it to the headlines again after a new update on her detention saga. Griner spent several months in Russian prison over illegal possession of drugs. However, the WNBA star returned to American soil after a long-fought legal battle. Even though fans showed their support for Grinner through her tough times, some have now seemingly turned their back on her. Moreover, the update came a week after her wife Cherelle’s ‘revenge’ claim.

The star played her last WNBA game in October 2021 and a recent update suggested that she could return to the court sporting the Phoenix Mercury jersey. While the fans expected to see the star in action on the court, she surprised everyone with a new update.

Brittney Griner recently took to her Instagram and expressed her intention in writing a book on her detention experience in Russia. Moreover, she added that the book would create awareness among Americans about ‘wrongful imprisonment abroad’.

She further added, “Readers will hear my story and understand why I’m so thankful for the outpouring of support from people across the world.” However, the fans weren’t taking the new update in the intended way.

In response to the update, Bleacher Report shared a tweet, and the fans swarmed the comments section, attacking Griner with hilarious memes and reactions. One user said, “The lack of accountability is preposterous.” Following are some reactions from fans.

After being sentenced to 9 years in prison, POTUS Joe Biden negotiated a prisoner exchange involving a Russian arms dealer. Incidentally, she returned home the next day after the negotiation.

While some fans didn’t like her recent update, others were looking forward to it.

Several reports suggest that the book will hit the stores in Spring 2024.

Cherelle’s revenge claim

Months after her wife’s return to the homeland, Cherelle took to her Instagram to express her feeling toward Griner’s trauma and suffering through an IG story. She shared a post on her story which read, “The best revenge is none. Move on and heal so you don’t become like the people that traumatized you.” Cherelle’s story is the outburst of the suffering she went through during the tough 10 months. Hopefully, she finds solace after the launch of Griner’s book.
