LeBron James is carrying the Los Angeles Lakers on his shoulders for the third straight year now. But the world will also remember him for his heroics with the Cleveland Cavaliers because of his natural leadership and flawless skills.

The Akron Hammer fits perfectly in the relational theory of leadership, meaning he brings improvement in his fellow teammates. This makes him a transformational leader and someone that compares against the untouched greatness of Michael Jordan. So do they bear any similarities?

In a recent interview, Clippers’ head coach Tyronn Lue spoke about the similarities between MJ and LeBron’s leadership capability. He said:

“They both want to win, and would do anything it’s out to win. Both have done a great job just galvanizing the team, making everyone feel a part of it. You think they’re guys who, sometimes bigger than the game, you think they’ll just stay in themselves and do their own thing, but they’re very great at just bringing everybody in.”

Now, coach Lue’s comments are important because he has joined the Clippers with a task to grow leaders. The Clippers have a prolific scorer in Kawhi Leonard, but lack a leading figure in the locker room.

Tyronn Lue has stepped into the big shoes of his former counterpart Doc Rivers to develop these skills in his players. So he obviously studies other impactful leaders in the game and tries to pick a thing or two to help his own cause. As of now, the Clippers are ahead of the Lakers in the conference rankings and things are falling in place for them.
