The Nets have been dealing with trouble for a long time as they first had to lock up their stars in the off-season. After that, their season started off poorly and it was clear this team needed to be fixed. Then, head coach Steve Nash was fired after a poor start.
And worst of all, Kyrie Irving was suspended without pay for a minimum of five games. Irving had put on a post on Twitter with a link to a film containing antisemitic material. This attracted severe backlash and Irving failed to initially condemn or apologize for his actions. The Nets were forced to act, and they suspended Irving and asked him to complete a list of actions before joining the team again. They also said that Irving had to finish everything on the list, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to return to the team.

Irving was suspended nearly three weeks ago, but he is yet to make his return to the court till now. The Brooklyn Nets said that Irving was unfit to be associated with the team. They also did not give a clear indication of when his suspension would end.

Several players and the NBPA have already condemned the Nets for their actions. They agreed that Irving made a mistake and recognized that he later apologized for his actions. But they felt that the Nets were doing too much and asked them to let Irving play. The Nets will likely have to fight the complaint even as Irving looks set to make his return to the team this Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies.
