Kyrie Irving’s stepmother, Shetelia Riley Irving, became the first black woman to negotiate an NBA contract as per Shams Charania. Signing with the Dallas Mavericks, the Irving duo landed a $126 million contract for three years. It means the payday for the dribbling wizard is north of $40 million. The third year is a player option, but for now, the Irvings can celebrate their huge success.
The Mavericks PG created history when he chose his stepmother as his agent back on Third March 2022. Irving’s parents turned up with a big deal within sixteen months of her tenure.

Talking to Bill Reiter of CBS Sports, Riley Irving revealed, “We planned to take the meetings but decided that Dallas would be our place”. The stepmother has forged a bond of trust with her child, but she has been famous for other things as well.
She was a part of the Black Entertainment Network, which is a “cable channel targeting African-American audiences.” She has vast experience in sales and her experience in the entertainment industry meshed with it well.
He signed his last contract with the Brooklyn Nets for a hefty $136 million. It ran for 4 years, paying him $34 million a year. The current contract will further enhance his net worth. His current net worth is estimated at around $90 million and with another big contract, he will only get closer to the $200 million mark. Despite numerous off-court controversies, the Guard’s game has talked loud, and his scoring skills have been rewarded aptly.

How long will he stay?
Irving’s recent tenures have been either rocky or short-lived. After spending six seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he spent a couple of them with the Boston Celtics. He then inked up with the Nets through his previous contract of $136 million. For the Nets, he’d usually sit in street clothes for more than half of the season, especially when the pandemic was raging.

As he moves on to the new chapter in life with Luka Doncic, will he be staying long-term or short-term? Will this partnership make something special in the West? It remains to be seen if he will do away from injuries and other off-court issues.
