Two days later, news broke that Irving was making his way to the Dallas Mavericks. Following this shocking news, the community stated that Kevin Durant’s future with the Nets was hanging in the balance. However, now Durant’s future seems to be crystal clear.

Minutes before the deadline, Sham Charania of the Athletic wrote online that the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets were in touch regarding a trade deal. He stated that this deal involved Durant’s name. Seconds later, he confirmed the news. Charania wrote, “The Nets are trading Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns.” The NBA community gasped, and chaos broke. Amidst this latest development, Irving had a message for his former teammate.

On Wednesday Night, the NBA champion made his debut for the Dallas Mavericks. He bagged 24 points and led the team to victory. Following the win, reporters gathered in a small room, waiting to interview the eight-time All-Star. Just as he made his way to the room, the reporters exclaimed as Durant’s news had just hit platforms online.

Naturally, Irving was asked about the trade. First, he refrained from answering. He stated that he wanted to talk about the win. However, moments later, he weighed in on the situation with an eight-word stinker. Irving said, “I’m just glad he got out of there.” He then stated that he was praying for Durant’s well-being and happiness.

Irving revealed that the two had several conversations about their future. He added that they only wanted to see each other prosper and thrive. He said, “There’s never been one moment where I felt like, he’s been angry at me for decisions I have made or I’ve been angry at him. We just trying to understand each other a lot better and grow as human beings, grow as brothers.” Furthermore, the eight-time NBA All-Star stated that he was excited to compete against Durant.

As per reports, the trade package offered by the Suns included Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, and Cam Johnson. Additionally, 4 first-round picks and compensation in the drafts were part of the deal.
