Kobe Bryant has always had a tumultuous relationship with the city of Philadelphia. Although there are several ideas as to why Philadelphia fans dislike their transferred brethren, none of them have entirely justified the hostility he faces.

When and how did the hatred start?
Kobe Bryant, a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, was born in Philadelphia. However, he has had a tense connection with his city ever since he claimed in the 2001 NBA Finals that he wanted to “cut their hearts out“. This comment came before a decisive game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Fans have never forgotten it. They even resorted to booing Bryant after he earned the MVP trophy during the 2002 NBA All-Star Game in Philadelphia.
Kobe has always been asked whether he would ever apologize for the comments he made during the 2001 Finals. Kobe responded, “In terms of an apology, I’m not apologizing for saying I’m going to come kick some ass. I’m just not going to do it. But I certainly embrace the city and I love everything that it’s taught me. So, I’m deeply appreciative of it.”
One of our generation’s most dedicated and determined sportsmen is reviled for winning a championship against his local team. If anything, However, many believe Kobe should be commended for possessing the same deadly instinct that this city cherishes. For the same hard-nosed attitude that epitomizes Philadelphia.

Why the Sixers fans embraced Kobe Bryant again

Fans didn’t show Bryant how much they cared until a game on Dec. 1, 2015. This game in Philly was scheduled only days after he declared that this would be his final season as a player. There was a standing ovation and chants of his name during the start of the game. At the conclusion of the game, the chanting resumed, as Bryant walked off soaking in the appreciation of the fans.
“They got me,” Bryant described his feelings. “I wasn’t expecting that kind of reaction. You can’t script that stuff. The amount of adoration I have for this city means everything to me.”
Bryant has always had a love-hate relationship with the city of Philly. Philly fans felt betrayed because he chose to represent the Lakers instead of his hometown. However, in the end, it was all love and appreciation.
