In one of the show’s segments where the hosts take fan questions, one fan asked about how to deal with the loss of a family member. The 11x NBA All-Star asked his co-host to answer that question. Johnson lost his son, his mother, and his sister in a very short span of time. He said, “It’s a lot in a short time. What I’ve realized is that I’m not trying to get over it.” Johnson said that he is simply trying to deal with everything with the realization that it is going to be tough for him.

He then explained what it is like losing his son Michael, and the things that remind him of his son.
“Michael used to love it when I would laminate pictures of cars for him,” Johnson said. Now when his son is no more, every sight of the things Michael loved brings back waves of sadness to his life. Johnson said, “There are times I’ll be in a store, and I’ll walk past a display of these new laminators, and it knocks the wind out of you.”
