The city of New York was once one of the biggest hubs for basketball. The mecca of basketball was filled with crowds going crazy for the New York Knicks. However, in recent times the script has flipped for the franchise. They have arguably become the laughing stock of the NBA. But that doesn’t mean climbing back is far. Over the last few seasons, the Knicks have acquired some serious talent. Now to lift the city of New York back to the top of the basketball world, they are relentlessly pursuing an All-Star from the Utah Jazz.
With a core of Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, the New York Knicks have a platform to build on. Randle made his berth to becoming an All-Star by putting up close to 24 points per game two seasons back. On the other hand, Barrett’s sophomore season made him a huge part of the Knicks’ offensive system. But it seems this pairing isn’t satisfying the franchise’s agenda.

Looking at the situation, the New York Knicks would completely change with Mitchell’s entrance. A young talent who certainly has the ability to reign over New York. However, on the other end of the bargain would be losing their young talent in RJ Barrett. A trade of the youngsters would arguably defeat the purpose for the Knicks. The biggest priority would be to construct around Mitchell, Randle, and Barrett. However, with the Duke star on the chopping block, that dream seems to be impossible at the moment.
