The NBA community has been buzzing with rumors of Kevin Durant leaving the Brooklyn Nets for some time now. New reports have not dismissed the possibility of that happening and have hinted at teams preparing for a potential trade of a lifetime. The signing of Kevin Durant could change the direction of any given franchise and potentially upend the status quo of the league.

Kyrie Irving is yet to sign his $36.9 million player option for the upcoming season. He has till June 29 to make his decision. If he decides to opt-out of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent, Kevin Durant leaving the Brooklyn Nets could very well become a reality.

ESPN Insider, Zach Lowe, on the latest episode of his Lowe Post Podcast, made a stunning revelation that could change Durant’s future in as soon as six days.

Kevin Durant could end up leaving Brooklyn

The 2021-22 season has been nothing short of a disaster for Kevin Durant. The Brooklyn Nets have turned from legitimate title contenders into a ruin of a broken ‘superteam’. A large portion of the blame for the Nets’ downfall can be ascribed to Kyrie Irving.

The Nets point guard refused to take the Covid vaccine earlier this season. Therefore, he had to sit out a majority of the games in the regular season. As a result, the Nets roster didn’t get the opportunity to build chemistry together and learn to play in tandem.

James Harden left Brooklyn supposedly frustrated with Kyrie Irving’s antics. Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics swept the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the playoffs. To add insult to injury, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors bagged their fourth ring in eight years recently after defeating the same Boston Celtics team.

As a result, the media hasn’t been kind towards Kevin Durant for the past few days. If Kyrie Irving leaves Brooklyn, it is very unlikely that KD would choose to languish in a derelict franchise. At 33, he can’t afford the patience to wait for the Nets front office to put pieces around him.

KD’s legacy in question

Various teams have reportedly started to make moves for a potential Kyrie Irving trade. This could shake up the NBA as arguably one of the best players in the league, in Kevin Durant, could be up for grabs.

With all the media criticisms for the past few weeks, KD would likely look to redeem his legacy by winning a chip in the next few seasons. Therefore, the 12-time All-Star forcing a trade out of Brooklyn in the off-season probably wouldn’t surprise anybody.
