The amount of fake stories that are created about the NBA and players is astronomical. And every once in a while, even the best analysts and media persons fall prey to it. And this time it was the famous Stephen A. Smith who reported a story from a parody account and got called out by Brooklyn Nets star, Kevin Durant.
Smith reported a story about how James Harden fell out with the Nets. He said, “Especially when Kyrie looked him in the face, according to reports, and told him you washed up. He said that to him”. The report he was referring to had come from a parody account. And Smith failed to verify the authenticity of it and said this on live tv when he was with Magic Johnson. He got called out by Durant on Twitter for this goof up.

After Smith said this on TV, Durant posted a clip of this and shared a line, “Damn steve. Got ya ass”. These two have a long and storied history and it all started in 2015. Durant accused Smith of lying when he linked him with the Lakers. And Smith responded by saying, “You don’t want to make an enemy out of me”.

This continued when Durant made his move to Golden State. Smith called out Durant and called it the “Weakest move seen by a superstar”. He was confronted by Durant’s mom later and he apologized to both of them.

Durant is not shy to call out reporters about something he doesn’t like. Last month, he called out analysts Nick Wright for his take. And they went back and forth. Additionally, Durant even called him little Nicky. He even called out Skip Bayless this season and said that he really doesn’t like him. Obviously, reporters and analysts need to be extra careful with Durant, as he will come back at you. Especially when there is a fake report about his team.
